I remember being happy at MITID from day 1, but in a rather dramatic way, there was one defining moment that made me love it. It was an unexceptional day in the beginning of Sem 3, and some of us were chilling in the foyer (as we did, surrounded by dogs, skateboarders and tuck shop go-ers). I think we were playing something, or just being very excited, and something happened that was so funny that I fell over laughing- splat in the centre of the foyer. There were people looking down from the first floor, lots of people on the ground floor too, and there I was- sprawled on the cold tile, laughing, and in that moment I had some kind of out of body experience. I saw my unflattering position, hysterical laughter, I felt all the eyes of people around me, but I remember being surprised at my complete lack of self consciousness. I felt no embarrassment, no urge to get up and slink away into a corner, no need to even move. I just remember thinking- damn, we live in a beautiful place, something is really funny, these people around me are my sorta-kinda family, and this place-this is home.
