So What’s your name ? Omg, that dreaded question again ! Answering that question is quite easy , it was the questions that followed – So , what does it mean ? Is it a Bengali name ? Is it a name? I mean really ! Of course its a name! It is one of those questions you hear a lot in the initial days of college when everyone is getting to know each other and repeatedly if you are blessed with a rare name like mine .And then comes everyone’s own version of the name depending on their understanding, memory and often, convenience .I remember one of the faculty correcting me about the meaning of the my own name “ Acha waise yeh toh Jammu ka art hai Bengal ka nahi!” Really ! C’mon man I know the meaning of my own name ! I did get over it eventually , when friends became family and I stopped noticing what they called me. Just like you don’t notice that your mom has been calling you by an embarrassing nick name all your life, until she does it in front of your friends ! .So Basoli became Baso, Masodi and worse still, Bassssss ! I am sure years later , when I am an old lady with white hair their phone would still flash “baasss calling” when I call them up ! How cool is that !
